Charity Block – Patience

Make with a variety of scraps.

Cut:
A - Four light squares, 3 1/2" x 3 1/2"
B - Four 2" x 3 1/2" from one print
      Two 2" x 3 1/2" from the 2nd print
C - Two 2" x 6 1/2" also from the 2nd print

Arrange the patches as shown. The top and bottom halves of the block are actually identical, only the bottom is rotated 180°. Sew together. Always press seams away from 'A'.

The block should measure 9 1/2" x 9 1/2" from raw edge to raw edge.

This is a 3 block by 4 block layout of Patience. I think that scrappy blocks look better.

Quilts with different orientation are shown below. You can also get a variety of different looks with different value placement.

I have been cutting my scraps up into the shapes for Patience blocks and made several charity quilts. Here are some examples of quilt tops.

My Panes and Frames pattern is basically controlled patience blocks with an attractive border.
